 A Camp for Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

In 1955 the University Church of Christ preacher, T. Roy Finley promoted the idea of a local youth camp. After that a six-man committee from University and Central Churches of Christ (Norman, Oklahoma) began looking for land suitable for a camp. After Vernon Fry, an elder and county agent, found an old gravel pit area northeast of Norman at N.E. 48 and Rock Creek Road, the grass lands and timber area of 80 acres were purchased for $5,000 through Wilbur Smith, Christian & Realtor. The camp was incorporated as a non-profit organization and has been operated since 1958 by its Board of Directors. The Board is made up of Christian members from various congregations of the Churches of Christ in Central Oklahoma. The Board meets as a group monthly to oversee the use of the facilities. 

During the summer, over 500 young people from the surrounding area enjoy the great outdoors as well as learn from God’s word. Each year dozens are baptized or recommit themselves to a closer relationship with Christ. 

Camp Rock Creek is at a very exciting junction in it's history as it continues to maintain the traditions and rural integrity of the camp while working towards new goals and visions that will make Camp Rock Creek one of the best places for outdoor Christian activities in Oklahoma.
